Where to start: the main differentiators across the motors is the amount of torque, or pulling power. That's the oomph to get you up to speed on a steep hill. Some of the cheaper bikes, not models we sell, might have as little as 10-15nM, the top bikes as much as 80nM. Bosch goes from 40nM through to 75nM. Torque makes a big difference to how a bike rides, especially for heavier or less fit riders. Come and try out a range of bikes here at the store to see for yourself.
Hub motor or midmount? Hub motors are generally constrained by size and might not be capable of much over 60nM. But that's more than OK for an electric road bike. Hub motors are lighter and, under light load conditions, ride more like non-electric bikes. Our bikes are mostly midmount motor but we have a growing number of hubmotor bikes, especially road, for you to try out.
Then there's style, step thru, trapeze (low step), diamond (traditional), chain or belt drive, hardtail, full suspension, gravel, you name it there's a category.
